Artificial arm, Roehampton, England, 1965-1975

This one-piece forearm with foam hand was created for a child with a missing lower left arm. The prosthesis consists of a plastic socket with an above-elbow cuff and a two-tone plastic cosmetic glove. Many advances were made in prosthetic limb technology for children during the 1960s and 1970s. This was due to the numbers affected by the drug Thalidomide. The technology used in this prosthesis is very similar. It was made by artificial limb manufacturer Steeper in the late 1960s.
