Dental impression tray, France, 1830-1850

Dental impression trays made moulds of the mouth. They were introduced in the mid-1800s. A model of the mouth was obtained by biting on a moulding material placed in the tray. The dentist used this as a template to create a set of dentures. This impression tray is made of bronze. Similar, although less elaborate, trays are used today.
