  • ulcer

    An open sore caused by erosion of the body surface. An ulcer can occur on the inside or outside of the body. The two most common types are mouth ulcers and stomach ulcers.

    A portable receptacle for urine. Urinal is now used as a term for a ceramic fixture, usually attached to a wall, that is used by men for urinating or for a place where there are facilities for urinating.

    A bowl-like spoon used to collect urine and direct to a central point. Male and female versions are different.

  • urine drainage bottle

    A bottle for the draining of urine.

  • urinometer

    A hydrometer for determining the specific gravity of urine.

  • urology

    A branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the urinary tract of men and women, and the reproductive system of males.

  • uroscopy

    The diagnosis of diseases by visual inspection of urine for blood or pus etc. It dates back to ancient Egypt, India and Babylon. It is considered limited in modern western medical practice, as it can lead to incorrect diagnosis.

  • uterine dilator

    Gynaecological instrument consisting of prongs and handles used to dilate the cervix. This could be done to assist child delivery or to carry out abortions.

  • uterus

    The hollow reproductive organ in female mammals. The uterus is where the foetus develops after conception. The word 'womb' is often used among non-medical people to refer to the same area.
